Zorbing has become more and more popular around the world over the past few years and it is generally recognized that the origin of zorbing began in New Zealand.
The first zorb ball
The conventional view seems to be that a man first slid down a hill in a zorbing ball in 1991. Apparently, two young men came up with the idea of rolling inside a big inflatable ball somewhere. They named this creation zorb. A few months later, they started mass-producing zorb balls, supplying giant PVC balls to the local market. Over the next few years, sales spread rapidly across the globe. No one believed it would be a huge source of entertainment and fun years later. But if you thought that was a complete zorb ball story, you would be wrong.
Prototype
Do you think they really were the ones who invented this inflatable ball in 1991? Let’s go back to an earlier date in 1982 and look at the original zorbing device. An extreme adventure sports team created a large sphere with two round chairs inside and out. Basically, it’s an original concept on a zorb ball, but the pattern is very different from today’s inflatable hamster balls.
Still, a man in France has been experimenting with the first design of a modern zorb ball a few months ago. About 40 years ago, the original name was bubble ball. A few years later, he improved the design. The first giant spheres appeared at the big event. The chamber between the two spheres contains constant air, which makes it soft and secure inside. The initial product upgrade took nearly three years, and the creation was registered in early 1980. Having solved the technical problems, their goal is to commercialize it to the world through mass production.
