Rapid counting method
Follow a certain rhythm, say two seconds at a time, and have your child complete the sit-ups on your command. As an example, each set is practised for 10 reps, with a 30 second break in between, for about 3-4 sets. On top of this, gradually increase in the number of exercises. For example, do 10 reps in the first set and 12 in the second set with 30 seconds rest in between, while the rhythm of the mantra can be changed from once every 2 seconds to once every 1 second.


Timing method
Have your child time the exercises according to certain requirements, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, etc., so that he or she can do as many as possible within the time limit. Using 10 seconds as an example, parents time the child and ask him/her to try to complete as many reps as possible in 10 seconds, for example the minimum requirement is 8 in 10 seconds. Alternatively, the two-headed rise is a long-lasting exercise in which the child lies on his or her back on a mat and raises both heads, i.e. head and legs up, with the hips on the floor. It is advisable to do this once a week.
