Besides the funny name, zorbing has an interesting history, too. The event of zorbing started in the 1980s. Later in New Zealand, however, Dwane van der Sluis and Andrew Akers later invented a plastic ball that humans could stand on, much like a human hamster ball, and they decided to call the invention a zorb ball. Zorb balls feature one ball inside another with a layer of compressed air between them that absorbs the impact. The idea of zorbing is to roll down a gentle slope with people inside the giant plastic ball and try to keep balance while the speed increases. But then people found that it was way difficult to keep the balance when the zorb ball is rolling down. Zorb balls are also water-adapted. If sealed properly, people can literally walk on water inside the zorb ball. It became especially popular around the world.
